The Artist

Award winning artist Leonette Ford was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has over 40 years as a professional artist.

"I believe I inherited a gift, a love of color, an appreciation and respect for nature, and an eye for composition. As a third generation landscape oil painter I knew I wanted to build on what I was given. Through an education in The Arts, I studied and learned the techniques that would further my career and leave a record of our earth in this day and time."

Some of the artists that have influenced Leonette's work include J.W.M. Turner, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Andrew Wyeth and Emily Carr. In addition, she has been fortunate to have been accepted to two of the artist Robert Bateman's juried Master Classes, and a juried workshop with the sculptor Veryl Goodnight and artist Jon Hines. Through these Masters, Leonette explored techniques for glazing multiple layers of paint, attention to detail, and gained a further understanding of the power of emotion in connecting the viewer with the artist. She observes and tries to absorb nature, capture the play of light, rhythm, movement of water, strength of the mountain or the ethereal mist in her oil paintings.

Works have been accepted by such prestigious juried shows as The Puget Sound Area Exhibition, at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, the Edmonds Art Festival, Anacortes Arts Festival and she was featured artist at the Semiamoo Park Museum. Paintings by Leonette Ford have been sought by corporations and collectors in the US, Canada, Germany and Japan.

In addition to oil paintings, Leonette also produces a line of hand painted glass Christmas ornaments. These are painted with acrylic, and each is an original of specific interest to the location of a gallery. " I am honored to be able to provide small quality original art for a customer.

Inspired by the spectacular coastline and industrious people, Leonette has recently relocated to live and work in Tenants Harbor, Maine, which has energized her passion to create. Commissions are always welcomed.
